James, this is awesome! XD

All that I can see that needs fixing so far is the width of each reply.

Now :: how the heck did you do this? :o

Sure thing :D

I think 20 seconds to refresh is a bit too much. I think I'll change it to 30sec (twice per minute).

I can think of only a few things:

  • reload immediately after creating a new comment (now it waits until the refresh)
  • reduce the space above/below chat lines (to get a lot more text on the page)
  • there is a small "missing page" message shown immediately after creating a comment
  • the colors are too heavy, and the boxes should be fixed width IMO

Probably not possible to fix all of these. But the chat is great… we should use this in Wikidot.

When this is out of a drafted stage… it should replace this IRC chat

1 & 3 are fixed. 2 & 4 can be fixed here

Although there are plenty of chat packages which can be embedded I like the idea of having a solution based on wikidot. Good work James.

knowing that some one is actually there is a major stumbling block.
the auto refresh had me going there for a minute. reading previous posts and then disappearing, and reloading at the bottom of the posts. random posts
but… its another fine example of wihidotting wikidot :-)

Yes, that works nicely! Still two things that bother me:

  1. The automatic refresh is annoying. It makes it hard to read the posts and makes it hard to type an answer. How about trying a lazy refresh that only refreshes when I make a comment, or revisit the page, or click something?
  2. The top part of the screen is small, so half of my page (below this box) is empty and wasted. Could we use resizable frames?

Forget it, this just turns it back into a forum. Ideally it should refresh only when someone adds a comment.

In theory, I could have a count-down timer to refresh, and you can click a link that says “extend refresh time”. It could even turn red in the last 5 seconds or so.

Also, we can have the Wikidot login-thing if you want. Actually, this whole thing should be on a normal wiki page. I'll do that now and see what you guys think.
